How does Heineken Light compare with Amstel Light?

Fellow beer blogger Sean Polay asks this question in the comments on the Heineken Light: The Tasting post, adding that he's always considered Amstel Light "Heineken Light."

Both are about the same "weight," thinner than their full-bore parents, but in other ways they are noticeably different. First, the color of Amstel is a bit darker:

The camera was plunged into a giant paper cup, the flash illuminating the cup's round bottom as seen through beer. The Amstel Light also appears a bit darker in natural light.

The flavor of Amstel Light is "darker," too. When it's cold, Amstel Light has more flavor -- a stronger grain taste with the bitter undertones of ale. I didn't much like that flavor. Heineken Light doesn't bite, and has no aftertaste.

My fellow taster preferred Amstel's stronger flavor -- he thought the Heineken Light had a "musky" taste, so he claimed the Amstel cup. (Let the argument about beer in green bottles being "skunked" begin.)

About halfway through my Heineken Light, I grabbed his Amstel. It tasted salty.

But by the bottom of the cups, on this hot summer night, both warm flat beers tasted pretty much the same.

I mentioned in the original post that Heineken Light comes in a taller, slimmer bottle than Heineken. It's the same height as the Amstel Light, but has high, round shoulders and not much neck.
