That interview is a prime example of why he is now appearing on the Daily Show rather than in the Senate.

You think the redneck bully in the White House is a "real man"?
This "twit" -- an intelligent, soft-spoken gentleman with real character -- was the only Republican Senator with the courage to vote against the war. And he dispatched blowhard Laffey with righteous anger and little trouble. If Chafee were not still a Republican, he'd still have his seat.

We all know that Chafee has never been well-polished. However, his brutal honesty, thoughtfullness and courage to take unpopular positions (i.e. Voting against invasion of Iraq) are far more important traits to have in a Senator. Chafee's loss is Rhode Island's loss.
I can't name one good thing the Republican-led Congress has done in the past five years either...

I'm a born-and-bred RI Democrat, but I dearly miss Senator Chafee. It was a tough decision to vote for Whitehouse over him, but I think it's better in the long run, for the country. Now... now Mr. Chafee needs to lead Rhode Island again: as Governor in 2010.
