BDthunderFrs.jpgBob Dylan, Tales Of Thunder 1976 . Various live dates between April and May 1976. Very good soundboard.

These are previously unreleased recordings from eight dates on the Rolling Thunder Revue tour.

In his book, Behind The Shades, Clinton Heylin wrote: "The Rolling Thunder Revue shows remain some of the finest music Dylan ever made with a live band... Gone was the traditionalism of The Band. Instead he found a whole set of textures rarely found in rock. The idea of blending the pedal-steel syncopation of Mansfield, Ronson's glam-rock lead breaks, and (Scarlet) Rivera's electric violin made for something as musically layered as Dylan's lyrics...[Dylan] also displayed a vocal precision rare even for him, snapping and stretching words to cajole nuances of meaning from each and every line."

Two takes: 17 tracks today, 13 more tomorrow.

thefew.jpgLocal bands: Back in 2000, projo.com launched an mp3 site for Rhode Island-area bands that continues today. (Back then, I ripped tracks for bands who had a CD but no computer know-how.)

More than 800 bands have signed up, uploading photos, a few words about their members and their influences, their upcoming gigs and, most importantly, their music. Many of the bands there are no more, making it an ongoing sampling of the history of 21st-century Rhode Island music.

Every day, a randomly selected band appears on projo.com/music, as well as links to the pages of new bands who've signed up.

One of the newest bands to find it -- The Few -- is playing late (around 11:30) tonight at The Living Room, 23 Rathbone St., Providence, after Gamblin' Hands, and Jeff Byrd and Dirty Finch. Cover is $8.

Bryan Donoghue emails, "We were originally a Providence-based band and most of our members still live in that area, but we've picked up significantly more shows in Boston lately, so it will be very good to be back."

The code is primitive, but the music and history it captures are priceless:
