Atlantic Magazine blogger Andrew Sullivan (a former Republlican who today posts a long endorsement of Barack Obama) chooses a live version of Leonard Cohen's Democracy, above.

JamsBio magazine offers a Pre-Election Playlist: 13 Songs to Pump You Up for Pulling the Lever, and embeds the tunes. They range from "Vote, Baby, Vote!" by Deee-Lite to "One Cat, One Vote, One Beer" by Ry Cooder, with stops at The Byrds, Cream, Ella Fitzgerald, Radiohead, Steve Goodman, Lyle Lovett, Neil Young, The Replacements, The Simpsons, Jack Teagarden, Clint Eastwood & General Saint and Ry Cooder.

At Cahl's Juke Joint, Carl Abernathy offers a great list of Best Election Songs, but you'll have to hunt to hear them. Among them, Cindy Berryhill's When Did Jesus Become a Republican"; the reggae tune Election Night (clip here) by Mikey Dread, who died in March of a brain tumor; bluesman (She's Tuff) Jerry McCain's "Vote" (full song here).

I'm going to go with a song for America by the late Phil Ochs, The Power and the Glory, performed live in 1974 with Jim Glover. Get past the TV show introduction -- it's not that long:
