The annual Ball Drop in Times Square, aided by Bill and Hillary Clinton, will be streamed by MSN, Hulu (beginning at 10 p.m.), and of course the Times Square site above. Live now, from EarthCam, Times Square, and "View numerous webcams from around the world including a host of cameras in Times Square." In Taiwan, pictured at right, it's already 2009.
At 10 p.m., ABC reprises Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve '09 With Ryan Seacrest, a variety show with Taylor Swift, Lionel Richie, the Jonas Bros., will.i.am., Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo, Pussycat Dolls, Solange and Robin Thicke performing. Clark -- America's Oldest Living Teenager -- is 79 now, but is expected to make an appearance. A stroke in 2004 left him with some paralysis. Also at 10, NBC angles for younger viewers with the fifth New Year's Eve With Carson Daly, and guests Sir Elton John, Ludacris, T.I., The Ting Tings, and Katy Perry. Both will break for local news at 11, then resume. CBS, apparently lost without Guy Lombardo, hosts a rerun of Letterman. From AP, Daughtry and Scott Weiland are featured players on Fox's late-night special, with Spike Feresten and Mark Thompson as hosts. It airs at 11 p.m. ET. Also on cable, Miley Cyrus's A Miley-Sized Surprise, at 8 p.m. on MTV, includes performances by Kevin Rudolph, the Veronicas and the Academy Is. BET's 106 & Party: New Year's Eve Special, with Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, Ray J, Juelz Santana, Brutha, Ace Hood and other guests, at 11. Also at 11, a daredevil showdown as ESPN's New Year, No Limits will have motocross star Robbie Maddison try to jump the fake Arc de Triomphe at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. At the same time, Fox has daredevil Robbie Knievel attempting a 200-foot motorcycle jump over over an exploding faux volcano. Bonus: Web Zen offers n.y.e. party music zen. That last, via BoingBoing. Worth noting: On WGBH (Channel 2) at 8 p.m., Live From Lincoln Center presents the New York Philharmonic New Year's Eve Gala Concert Beginning at 8 p.m. and running well into tomorrow, Turner Classic Movies offers a blockbuster retrospective with the 1974 film That's Entertainment, in which various MGM stars present their favorite musical moments from the studio's 50-year history. Co-hosts are Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Peter Lawford, Liza Minnelli, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart and Elizabeth Taylor, showing lots of clips.
