WRviennaFrs.jpgWeather Report, Vienna 1971
[no label, 1CD]
Live in Vienna, Austria. November 1971. Very good soundboard or radio broadcast?

...The group had only released their self-titled debut album in May 1971 and this Vienna gig looked like an impressive showcase for the avant-jazz group.

Unlike many new groups, saxophonist Wayne Shorter and keyboardist Joe Zawinul were not unknowns nor were they novices. And the "new" group offered them the chance to stretch their musical wings, especially when it came to improvisations.
However, they would be saddled with the "jazz-fusion" moniker later but avant-jazz would probably be an apt description for the music they played....

Miles Davis Septet, Another Unity
[Legendaly Collection Series, 2CD]
Live at the Shinjuku Kohseinenkin Hall, Tokyo, Japan, January 22, 1975. Very good soundboard.

Then there are fans such as emperor nobody who would swear by this: "This concert almost eclipses Agharta and blows away Pangaea... I'll say that this is as tight, as focused, as dynamically diverse, and as balls-out shredding as ANY MILES ELECTRIC SHOW that I have ever heard, period. Whatever Pete Cosey's on in this one ought to be put in the water supply, that's all I can say."

Lovely sentence from House Minority Leader John Boehner today:

"How can you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives? How does that stimulate the economy?"
