Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to play around with our homepage logo and see what new designs they come up with. This year we're inviting U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around the intriguing theme "What I Wish for the World."

...Registration closes at 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 17, 2009 and entries are due by 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 31, 2009. Teachers, you'll find everything you need to get started on the Registration page. Only teachers or school employees should register. Parents or students who are interested should contact their teacher to register them.

The Judging and Prizes section spells it all out, but the top one is,

The National Winner's doodle will 'go live' on the Google homepage for 24 hours.

and

The National Winner will win a $15,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle. We'll also award the winner's school a $25,000 technology grant towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab.

Samples, and tips from the man who started didn't start this logo enhancement, Google Webmaster Dennis Hwang.

More inspiration: Google: Holiday Logos.

The 11-year-old already knew about this.

Maybe the grownups want to start their own version.

Wow.
This contest would be incredible for me to win.
My dream is to be a graphic designer and having Google under my belt should help me gain experience and knowledge into the business I want to go into.
It IS a huge plus that I get scholarships, tech grants for my school, shirts, and a laptop, though.
(:
I'm going to go for it all and try my hardest to win first place but I know that I'll be happy with just getting through into one of the final rounds.
Good luck to everyone out there and may the best doodle win.

This contest is great! Some parents were discussing it and we thought it would be such a fantastic idea to feature all of the entries for a day (there are so many days were it is just the plain Google logo, why not?). Or at least one from each grade level for a day as honerable mentions. It wouldn't just make the child's day; it would leave them an impression of success for a lifetime. What a wonderful idea that you could not only change the life of one child for a day, but change the lives of hundreds of children for a lifetime. Food for thought.

Thank you so much for putting this concest out there for students to particiapate in. I wish I could have won this contest because my dream is to go to Santa Clara University and right now looking forward to that day, it looks like I will not be able go to there. Maybe just one day... maybe just maybe I could over shine in every way, this contest and sports, and pursure my dream school. Thanks for letting me and my school particiapate in this contest to try to reach my goal. Thanks again!
