A memorial service and Irish wake is planned for Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Blackstone, 1005 Main. St., Pawtucket (next to Farm Fresh Rhode Island's Wintertime Farmers' Market at the Hope Artiste Village). Musicians are urged to bring instruments. Jocko's big sister Louisa describes him on Facebook as "sweet, hilarious, irreverent, wise." He was also direct, fair and endlessly interesting, Amara's served natural foods in a charming antique house in Fox Point, and on a winter night with the fireplaces burning and candles flickering on tables there was no cozier place. Nearly thirty years ago I may have greeted and seated you, waited on your table, or made your bread. Jocko's memorial will be a reunion; I'm looking forward to hearing the stories. Amara's Restaurant ran from 1978 to 1987, first in Fox Point and later in East Providence. Amara died of brain cancer in 1987. She was 63. Obit and Guestbook | More details | Amara's Cookbook |
