Secretary Salazar Releases U.S. State of the Birds Report
March 20, 2009
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar released the first ever comprehensive report on bird populations in the United States, showing that nearly a third of the nation's 800 bird species are endangered, threatened or in significant decline due to habitat loss, invasive species, and other threats.-- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service


Its very readable Web site, with lots of background on results and methodology: State of the Birds, United States of America -- The 2009 Report.Its findings are reported in a beautiful pdf. (That's its cover at the top of this post.)

"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service took the lead in creating this report through an unprecedented partnership involving the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, State wildlife agencies, and nongovernmental organizations as a subcommittee of the U.S. North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI).

The website, video, and printed report were produced for the partnership by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology."
