Update, 10:15 a.m. Saturday This is the unimproved version. I started this post last night in one tab, got this far, and saved it unpublished. After dinner I added more and published it. This morning, I managed to save this unpublished beginning over the larger published version. This post devolved. It was not easy to lose. But Hemingway had a theory that the first two pages were warmup, and when he cut them out the story behaved as though they were still there. Imagine there is still a big drawing here...
