Whole Foods

There's always somebody fired, somebody whose idea of impossible is the hive mind's idea of outrageous. Car and Driver reported that,

The White House announced today that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR at the end of the 2009 season if they hope to receive any additional financial aid from the government.

Car & Driver thought it was an obvious prank; those prone to high dudgeon took it seriously. Oops. Story yanked.

Replacing that story:

Car and Driver has a proud tradition of irreverent editorial and we amplify that each year with our April Fools' Day joke. Check out coverage of this year's prank:

But nothing once out ever really vanishes. Here's the original story: Obama Orders Chevrolet and Dodge Out Of NASCAR. "With their racing budgets deemed "unnecessary expenditures," GM and Chrysler are ordered to cease racing operations at the end of the sea."

Yes, I saved a copy.

Reaction? Nervous laughter. (Is that for real?)

To those who see horns on the new President, this seemed plausible and sparked outrage.

The reason some people fell for it is THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING the dems would do!!!

And now that you have posted it - they are probably drafting the bill in Congress even as we speak!

Don't forget to pay your taxes. Over 50% of the people and 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!

I AM A REPUBLICAN BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY CAN BE ON WELFARE!

ESPN NASCAR writer David Newton scolded (April Fools' prank a low blow),

After much heat, the magazine pulled the story from its Web site and issued an apology.

Too late. The prank already wasted the valuable time of people from NASCAR, GM and Chrysler who have spent the past year dealing with catastrophic layoffs and financial ruin during this time of crisis in the automotive industry.

This is not a time to make jokes about something so serious -- even on April Fools' Day.

Besides that, this wasn't even funny.
