LoisRodden-300.jpgAstrodienst -- Astro.com, the large astrology site in Zurich available in several languages, has acquired the late Lois M. Rodden's lifework, Astro-Databank: Astrology data and horoscope of 20,000 celebrities, horoscopes for astrological research and put it into wiki form.

The Astro-Databank wiki publishes the huge collection of astrological data collected by Lois Rodden and her cooperators, so that these data can be used for astrological research, for astrological publications and for serious astrological discussion.

The access to the data for these purposes is free of charge.

Astrodienst is committed to preserve the idealistic spirit of Lois Rodden and to continue her work. The Astro-Databank has been transformed into an open wiki project. We are now forming a community of volunteer data collectors and maintainers, who will expand and maintain this uniquely valuable collection of astrological information in the future.

I went to the L section, and most of the names were unfamiliar, but it was fun to see sci-fi writer Ursula LeGuin, a bunch of Lennons (the Lennon Sisters of Lawrence Welk fame as well as the Beatle and his first wife and kids), Panamal Canal builder Ferdinand de Lesseps, Monica Lewinsky, lots of Lewises, H.P. Lovecraft, Angela Lansbury, Annie Lennox, Huey P. Long, a sketchy Little Richard, Great White guitarist Ty Longley (who died in the Station Nightclub fire) and hundreds more. There is no astrology here (except for a small chart which can be enlarged), just biographical info heavy on dates, and links to more textured bios at Wikipedia. The presence of the indexes makes browsing and poking around very easy.

The bulk of this database -- all but a few hundred current notables -- was previously available only to those interested enough to purchase the $249 AstroDataBank software and its updates. If you've ever wondered about the significant dates in the life of a famous person, they're probably in this massive listing. Such dates are used to test events against the positions of planets at the time they occur, an ancient process of empirical research streamlined by technology.

Lois Rodden spent decades hunting down accurate birthdates and exact birthtimes. Her Rodden Rating System classifies the accuracy of the sources of birth data from AA (birth certificate) to DD (Dirty Data - two or more reported times). She died of cancer in 2003 at 75.

Astrodienst (it means Astro Service in German), created by Swiss astrologer and devleoper Alois Trendl, is full of free autogenerated horoscopes and interpretations. Especially interesting is a daily report, with upcoming influences based on geometric relationships in your own horoscope chart, all with some explanation. If you go, bring your exact birthplace and time. And the rest of your family's as well. You can explore here for years and test its accuracy against your own life events.
