Update 3:44 p.m.: No surprise, really, but the bandwidth ran out immediately on the live presentation, the feed was cut to audio and then died here at least. Organizers promise (on the question-tool page) that the archived video will be available after the presentation at this link.

Update 11:11 p.m. A Wolfram|Alpha blog launched today.

Last month, word of a new type of search engine hit the blogosphere: Hot or hype? Wolfram Alpha promises answers, not search results. I wrote there, "The goal here is the Star Trek computer, holding the sum of all knowledge, with specific answers retrievable by asking unambiguous questions."

Today at 3 p.m. the Berkman Center at Harvard is offering A Sneak Preview of Wolfram|Alpha: Computational Knowledge Engine, which only a few people have seen in action.

Although the live event is full,

This event will be webcast live at 3:00 pm ET on (Tuesday) 4/28 from this link: https://cyber.law.harvard.edu/interactive/webcast.

To participate remotely, submit your questions via the Berkman Center question tool, vote on your favorites, and the questions with the most votes may be tested on Wolfram | Alpha during or after the demonstration.

Blogger Shelley Powers and I riffed on whether it could serve up a recipe for brown rice in the crockpot. I posed that question on the questions page. It needs votes; unless others are interested in seeing if this wonder has everyday uses, it probably won't be addressed.
