Notable, and happening this weekend:
Garden fodder:
Southside Community Land Trust holds its 17th Rare & Unusual Plant Sale Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Farm, at the corner of Dudley & West Clifford Streets in Providence. Organically grown herbs, veggie plants, flowering annuals and perennials are to be sold, accompanied by live local music. This one draws a crowd every year, and both the plants and the entertainment are excellent.
Bob Dylan party. I've heard of two celebrations of Bob Dylan's birthday this month. The first is Sunday afternoon at 2, the 11th Annual Bob Dylan's Birthday Bash With The Zimmermen at The Mill, 711 Putnam Pike (Route 44) in Greenville.
Musicians from Loose Change, Ken Lyon & Tombstone, FolksTogether and Jade serve up Dylan songs. You can sing along, since you know all the words.
The second party is closer to his birthday, May 24, when Dylan will turn 68. More on that later.
Lit: Clifford Garstang (Perpetual Folly) recommends a new short story in The New Yorker, "In the South" by Salman Rushdie.
Tough TV: Farrah Fawcett's documentary of her battle with anal cancer, Farrah's Story, airs tonight at 9 on NBC. The cancer has now spread to her liver and the actress is reportedly near death.
