Total Eclipse of the Heart: Literal Video Version

This has been around for a week or so, underbilled by the Wall Street Journal as "Bonnie Tyler + Snark = Friday Viewing Pleasure," elsewhere as, "What if music video lyrics literally described what you were seeing?" I once thought music videos would all be little playlets based on the actual lyrics. It seemed as though someone had discovered that potential as new and acted on it.

But nope, this is the visuals from the original video, the music, but all new lyrics, and especially subtitles. Overhear everybody's thoughts. This feels really fresh, because it's funny and well done through most of it. The actual video's ending is so bizarre there's nowhere to go with it.

Actually, I think the parody makes more sense. The "Guess I should be acting but I'm not" caption in the sendup is probably not fair to Bonnie Tyler -- she couldn't have had any idea what she should be expressing because the video has nothing to do with any song or story. It showcases a castle, dancing ninjas and acrobats. It's a variety show from a dark experimental theater in lower NYC.

Here's the unabridged original "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. If you watched the one above, you'll remember the parody as it plays.
