Freebie: IHOP offering free kids' dinners for a few weeks

IHOP (once known as the International House of Pancakes) is offering a free meal for kids 12 and under with each purchase of an adult entree between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. through Sept. 13. Drinks and takeout not included, but every little bit helps.

Here's their menu. There are two IHOPs in Rhode Island, one at 45 Pleasant Valley Parkway in Providence (at Promenade Street), the other at 159 West Main Road in Middletown.

My favorite there for decades has been Swedish Crepes with lingonberries and lingonberry butter. As that photo suggests, they're a cross between an omelet and a pancake. I have to remember to ask them to hold off on the final dusting of powdered sugar, which cancels the grownup goodness of the slightly tart fruit.
