The National Hurricane Center's 5-day Track Forecast for Hurricane Bill foresees the weakened storm's effects striking Ireland and Scotland by Wednesday. I don't recall ever seeing a hurricane head for Europe before. 10 CommentsLeave a comment |

Its wont hit ireland/uk as anywhere near a hurricane, infact it will be a very mild tropical storm if anything! we can expect lots of rain and gusts of maybe around 40-50mph, but its not a hurricane! The waters around ireland are to cold for Bill to sustain any kind of strength!
PS. There was a tail end of a hurricane that hit UK in 1987, again it was not a hurricane but only the left over of one. But still caused a lot of damage!

I was in Co. Mayo on the coast when what was left of Rita hit a couple years ago... lots and lots of rain and gale force winds. It was nasty for a couple days.

The extratropical remnants of hurricane Charley hit Ireland in 1986 and caused massive nationwide flooding, 50mph winds and thunderstorms like we had never seen before. Definitely nothing on the hurricanes that hit the states but still pretty bad.

Bill should be an interesting sight to behold!
Just to add to the comments above, Bill will probably only be a category 2 (at most) by the time it hits Ireland, so it will hopefully just be a storm. When Charlie hit, he was almost a category 4 so he caused major damage, but again we only caught the tail, so we're still sitting pretty here in Ireland. Not like the poor states :(

Anyone else remember Hurricane Debbie reaching the West of Ireland in September of 1961?

Judi, I love this line from that story, "Older people called these sídhe gaoithe or fairy winds."
