President Barack Obama yesterday turned 48, a birthdate he shares with veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas, left, who turned 89. He provided the cupcakes.
"Feisty" was invented for this journalist. ("They don't like my boorishness," she said of the Bush White House.) She does it for what I think are all the right reasons:
We in the press have a special role since there is no other institution in our society that can hold the President accountable. I do believe that our democracy can endure and prevail only if the American people are informed.
Her birthday wishes, according to AP, were "world peace and a real health care reform bill." His, too.
