Set your DVR: Mythbusters' scientists/special-effects experts are hip Mr. Wizards for whom no old saw, urban myth or old wive's tale is too weird, dangerous or gross that an experiment can't be designed to test its truth. (Stern "Do not try this at home" warnings are frequent.) The resulting TV shows are smart, sometimes irreverent and fun.
Monday, Jan. 18, Discovery Channel airs a marathon of episodes between 9 a.m. and midnight. (You can see it on Cox Cable on channel 24 DSC and 745 DSCHD; DirectTV, 278 DSC; 182 DSC and 9487 DSCHD on DISH.)
Have you ever wondered anything like, "Would a candle made of ear wax burn?" Mythbusters has tried it, and the crew don't remember that one fondly, as Linda Holmes of NPR's Monkey See Blog reports: 'Mythbusters' Grant Imahara Explains Something Gross (Not Safe For Lunch).
If you're unfamiliar with the show, which the kids I know like as much as the adults, you can watch some earlier episodes on YouTube.
