According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 77 percent of Rhode Islanders lived in a household with Internet access in 2009.
Comparing that with the number of self-identified Rhode Islanders on Facebook, this Google Labs Fusion Table finds that 38 percent of us use Facebook, making us second only to Kansas (!) in the relative percentage of those online who've joined the social network.
Since we all know someone who probably knows you, about half the state's online population has been invited to Facebook, intentionally or not. But that doesn't mean all accept, or actually use it after accepting the first invitation, perhaps unsure if it would be rude to decline.
This is an idle collision of facts, nothing to take to the bank. Thanks nevertheless to my colleague Tim Barmann for the tip.
